This dataset contains an inventory of highway-rail crossings throughout the United States. This information previously was provided voluntarily by the States or by the railroads controlling the crossings. Now this information is required by law, and so this dataset is in transition. The inventory includes information about the railroad owning the crossing, the location of the crossing, information about the highway, traffic control information, and physical characteristics of the crossing.

The Large Truck* Crash Causation Study (LTCCS) is based on a three-year data collection project conducted by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). LTCCS is the first-ever national study to attempt to determine the critical events and associated factors that contribute to serious large truck crashes allowing DOT and others to implement effective countermeasures to reduce the occurrence and severity of these crashes.

This file contains reported cases of collisions, derailments, fires, explosions, acts of God, or other events involving the operation of railroad on-track equipment and involving damages exceeding the reporting threshold for the year reported. It also contains information about reported cases of impacts between on-track equipment and any user of a public or private highway-rail intersection, and casualties of these accidents/incidents. National files from 1975 through the current year are available for download. In addition, individual files by State are available for the years 1991 through the current year.
